Google DeepMind is partnering with Commonwealth Fusion Systems to apply AI simulations to plasma physics, aiming to speed up design and operation of fusion reactors. They will use DeepMind’s open-source tool, TORAX, to optimize CFS’s SPARC reactor ahead of its startup in 2026–27. While fusion power is still years from commercial readiness, both parties believe AI could advance the timeline by improving efficiency and control.
