More than half of new articles published on the open web are now written by AI rather than humans. The share of AI-generated content surged after ChatGPT’s launch, quickly rising to about 39 % by late 2023, and then it plateaued. Though AI content dominates volume, most such articles don’t surface in Google or ChatGPT results. The study notes many articles are hybrid (AI draft, human edit) but weren’t counted in their pure-AI metric.
